I am trying to launch a Java program that needs JRE 8. I tried installing it onto my wrapper with the installer, but it showed a message in the style of 'Oops, no new executables found, maybe the installer failed?'. The solution on my other computer was to download the compact version in tar.gz, put the jar into the
jre1.8.0_60bin directory, cd to it with the Command Line Shell and then run java -jar program.jar . I tried the same on my computer, but this error showed up:
In the file hs_err_pid71.log, there was the same text as in the Command Line. but with an additional information. I put it on Pastebin because of its length.

So I've just downloaded wineskin on my MacBook Air, it's a Mojave 10.14. It actually runs until I click Test Run, then it says 'Do you wish to view the Test Run Logs?'; when I click yes or whatever it brings me to a textedit file, when I click no it doesn't do anything. I've tried to run three CDs so far, and I've downloaded Wineskin twice.
Not sure if it matters, but the CDs I've tried to run are compatible with:
Thank you in advance!.. also if you could please use uhm, 'normal' terms in your answer lol, because I'm a TOTAL noob. I'm actually surprised I went so far in the installation process.

Salutations!
Let me lay it down for ya plain and simple. You should be playing Deus Ex. Why? Because itâs freaking awesome. Any SHOOTER that gives you the possibility of a nonlethal play-through deserves a your money. And if thatâs not good enough for you, just read every other post about it on the internet, because this is not a guide to WHY you should play it, this is a guide for HOW you can play it. I just want you to know that having a Mac is NO LONGER a reason that you canât play this game. I love GOG. Itâs one of my favorite websites of all time. Iâm so thankful for the work that they do; they deserve some kind of humanitarian award. But sometimes, the games I want to play arenât available on Mac yet. Deus Ex is one of them. I want to take a second to say a special thanks to Rampancy for his GOGmix âMac Friendly/Open Source GOG Gamesâ. Deus Ex is the first game on his list, and while I didnât understand a word he wrote on there, it made me realize that it was possible to play this game on my Mac. Iâm not technologically illiterate, but I didnât know jack-squat about running windows programs on my Mac (without BUYING software like CrossOver or Windows or Parallels, which I had no intention of doing). The internet is inundated with advice, overviews, and troubleshooting for how to generally play windows games on Macs (Rampancy seems to be our resident GOG expert. Heâs a genius!), but nowhere in my searching did I find a single âhow to play Deus Exâ set of instructions! But, I decided to buy it during the Square Enix sale a few weeks ago, and try to FIGURE IT OUT. And you know what? After three days I DID figure it out, and when I did, I realized it was actually really simple, if you know what to do. So after playing it I decided to make a list of easy, step-by-step instructions so that the next poor fool who Googles âHow to play Deus Ex on a Macâ can get it set up in 30 minutes instead of three days. Now, is this the ONLY way to play Deus Ex on your Mac? NO Does this way work? ABSOUTLEY. It works on my 2007 iMac and on my 2011 Macbookpro, so Iâm sure itâll work on whatever machine you have. If Iâm wrong⦠Sorry. Iâm sure for some of you this is going to be baby talk, and I should be ashamed of how long it took me to figure out something so primitive, but there are loads of people like me who would LOVE to play this game, but simply donât know how. And Iâm going to include pictures. I canât tell you how many times I thought to myself âWHY DONâT THEY JUST INCLUDE A FRICKING PICTURE?!?!?!â (visual learner here. I just hope the pictures arenât too small, I was having some trouble.) Donât be daunted by how long the instructions are, itâs long because I made it simple. Just take it slow and youâll be UNATCOâs top agent in half an hour. Alright. That was a whole lot of talking. Lets get down to business. 1. Purchase and Download Deus Ex from GOG. Doesnât matter if you use the Downloader or not. Youâll be left with a file you canât read. 2. Google âWineskin Wineryâ and the first link should bring you here. [image 1] Go ahead and download it. 3. Take your downloaded âWineskin Wineryâ and put it somewhere pretty, like your desktop or whatever. Then open it. 4. Now you need to install an engine. I read loads of different opinions on which engine you should use, and as far as I can tell⦠it doesnât really matter⦠But like I said I just want to show you ONE way that works, not the ONLY way it works! 5. Thereâs a couple ways you can do this, but the way Iâll be demonstrating is by clicking âDownload Packages Manually.â [image 2] Unfortunately at the time Iâm writing this, the link is broken⦠So go back to that first downloads webpage I showed you and click the mediafire link in the âmanually installed item downloadsâ box (see image 1). 6. Should take you to this page [image 3]. Letâs just get the newest one, which at the time is Wine 1.7.x (itâs highlighted in the picture). 7. Click on the link and scroll down to the newest version, which for me is âWS9WINE1.7.9-Installer.app.zipâ Download it. 8. Take your downloaded file and open it, then click âinstallâ on the Wineskin Installer. 9. BOOM now you have a new engine in your Winery. If it doesnât show up, just close and open your Winery. Click on the new engine so itâs highlighted, and then click âCreate New Blank Wrapperâ [image 4] 10. Name your wrapper something cool like Rhyme-noceros or Hip-Hop-opotamus. JK. Name it something like Deus Ex, because this is what you click to play the game. Click âokâ 11. Youâll get some windows asking you to install âMonoâ and âgeckoâ, but no on likes Mono, so just click âcancelâ [image 5] 12. Youâve created a Wrapper! HOORAY! You probably want to âView wrapper in Finderâ so you donât have to search for it, then put it somewhere safe. Like your desktop. Then you can click âOKâ and CLOSE your Winery and OPEN your new wrapper! 13. When opened, it should look like this. [image 6] Go ahead and click âInstall Softwareâ 14. Click âChoose Setup Executableâ and find where you saved that Deus Ex file way back in step 1!!! Then choose/open it. 15. INSTALL IT LIKE A BOSS! [image 7] 16. Okay, weâre not done yet. Now we need to do some troubleshooting. That was the easy stuff, this is the part that actually took me a long time to figure out. Click âLaunch Gameâ and youâll be asked which 3D video device you want to use. My screen was glitchy using the suggested âDirect3D Supportâ, so click on âShow all devicesâ and chose OpenGL Support. [image 8] Now, I heard plenty of different opinions on which video device to use, but like I said, this worked on a 2007 iMac and a 2011 Macbookpro, so letâs give it a try. 17. Click Next, Next, and Run! 18. Alright, weâre almost there. Chances are your game will be too dark. Mine was, and I installed it several times and used different 3D devices on both computers. If you start the âtrainingâ and canât see the door on the other side of the room, itâs too dark. The game takes place totally at night, so if youâre finding it hard to see in this well lit building, something ainât right. Unfortunately because of things I donât understand, you CAN NOT change the brightness level in game. Let me tell you how to fix it (this took me a long time to figure out). 19. Close the game and click âokâ on whatever pops up. You need to get back to the ânew wrapperâ box (see image 6). If you canât find it, you need to RIGHT CLICK your wrapper (the one you named Deus Ex) and chose SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS. If you just double click, it will open the game (handy for when you feel like playing). There should be âcontentsâ âdrive_câ and âwineskinâ. Open wineskin. 20. Hey! I recognize that little box! This time click âSet Screen Optionsâ and you should get this. [image 9] Look at the âextra Gamma Correctionâ slider, and move it all the way from ânoneâ to âvery brightâ. Thatâs what I did, if you donât like it, then you can come and adjust it later, since you know where it is now :D (took me too long to find on my ownâ¦) 21. Click done, close that little box, and try playing your game again (double click your wrapper you created and named). This time it should be perfect. You did it! Youâre playing Deus Ex on your Mac! Youâre awesome! Deus Ex is awesome! GOG is awesome! WHOOOOOOOO!!!! Iâll admit that sometimes itâs a little glitchy starting up or closing down, but thatâs kinda just life. Plus my iMac sucks, so that could be part of the problem. But the game itself runs perfectly and is 100% playable. Iâve only had it quit ONCE on me while I was actually playing. Having problems? This is a forum isnât it? Post your questions and comments and Iâm sure someone smarter than me will be able to help you. Liked my post? RATE IT UP YO. My next endeavor was going to be Planescape: Torment, but GOG already Mac-ed it up for us, BECAUSE THEYâRE AWESOME. Alright, thatâs all for now. Cheeriops. fredzillanator

Thanks for your guide! I have fallen at the first hurdle and cannot install the .exe via the Deus Ex wrapper - it comes up with a message saying 'no new executables found' (see attachment). Any ideas about how to address this would be appreciated!

Does this happen at the end of the game installation process?

Hmm, from that error message it seems like the game got installed, but the wrapper couldn't detect the executable for starting the game. You could try the following..
Double click your wrapper in the Finder while holding down the alt-key. This should open a window like image_6 of fredzillanator's comment. Press the Advanced button. This should open wineskin advanced settings with the Configuration tab selected (if not, choose Configuration from the three tabs at the top of the window). Right below the tab bar is a text field called Windows EXE:, click the Browse button beside it. This will open a standard file dialogue of which the current directory should be drive_c. (Now, if the game was not installed, the following stuff might not be there..) Unless you changed the standard installation path there should be a GOG Games directory which contains a 'DeusEx' directory (not sure about the exact name). Go there and look for the System directory, which should contain the deusex.exe. Select deusex.exe and press 'Choose'. Close your wrapper. Double click your wrapper in the Finder to start the game. If everything went well you should be at point 16 in fredzillanator's list, right after clicking 'Launch Game' (which you didn't have to do).

Michael_Hunsley: Hi Can anyone help? I think you would have to run the Windows Steam client in a Wineskin wrapper and install and play Deus Ex through your wrapped Steam client. There is a Winetricks option to install Steam, but I've never tried it.Ive bought Deus Ex through Steam on my MacBook Pro 2011 running High Sierra 10.13.5 but the steam app won't let me download or run the game obviously because it won't run the PC executable file. Then, after opening your wrapper click Advanced (see image_6). Go to the Tools tab and click the Winetricks button directly below it. This will open the Winetricks window. Type Steam into the Winetricks search field, check Steam under apps and then press the Run button. From here on you're on your own.. (^-^;

jamestownrats: Thanks for your response! This happens at the beginning of the installation (i.e. it doesn't go any further than this), using Wineskin WS9 1.7.9. I'm running High Sierra (10.13.2). i also faced the same problem . you have to tweak your wineskin to make it run properly in high sierra or further . Follow the steps from this video, make sure you apply these settings to your freshly created wrapper and the game should install just fine . then you can follow the remaining steps . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDjWNWM3Y7wenjoy the game!

FAQ:
Fallout new vegas halo weapons mod. How do I update the client?
Unfortunately, it seems that self-updating is broken in Wine. A fresh reinstall with a brand new Wineskin should fix the problem.
Oops! No new executables found!
Try unzipping the MTGArena.zip in a folder besides /Applications/, then manually dragging the MTGArena.app to /Applications/
Some error about DirectX 11?
Your Mac doesn't support OpenGL 4. See here to check your Mac's specs.
Why can't I download a pre-installed MTG Wineskin?
I'm not entirely sure of the legality of uploading a copy of Arena onto the internet to share with other people.
Why do I need to download the custom Wineskin wrapper?
The default Wineskin wrapper engines only provide Wine 2.X, and Wine 3.X is necessary for MTG Arena to run.
Alt-tabbing in windowed mode is broken!
Try dragging the window around a bit. That should fix it.
The game keeps crashing!

[EDIT] UPDATED 04/08/13Here is a short guide for Installing Fantasy Grounds II on OS X using the free software WineSkin. WineSkin effectively allows you to run Windows applications under Linux and OS X including the latest version Mountain Lion (10.8.x). As the name suggests WineSkin is built atop of the opensource package Wine. It works by creating a wrapped runtime environment that mimics a common Windows environment. No licenses including operating system (aside from OS X) are required. WineSkin simplifies Wine engine and wrapper setup enabling a great variety of Windows applications to be easily installed, operated and managed. Note: 10.8.x OS X (Mountain Lion) no longer incorporates the X11 package after Apple decided to drop it in favour of the independent X11 project package XQuartz; XQuartz 2.7.3 or higher is required to be installed before following the steps below. You can find all the latest releases of XQuartz here: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/Releases Note: Not all applications at present will work with WineSkin (mainly .NET based applications are problematic) however Fantasy Grounds II works incredibly well. The easiest way to get the latest WineSkin release installed onto OS X is to use the main WineSkin dev site. http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tik..page=Downloads Installing WineSkin 1.7
